About Michael Grant

Michael Grant is a specialist property barrister operating out of 42 Bedford Row and can be instructed either by a solicitor or a landlord/letting agent directly.

Education

Michael studied Law at the University of Northumbria and thereafter successfully completed his Bar Vocational Course in 2008.

Call to the Bar and Scholarship

Michael was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2009 by the Honourable Society of Middle Temple where he was also awarded the Harmsworth Scholarship for ability.

Property Background

  • Michael was formerly the Illegal Eviction and Harassment Prevent Officer for Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council. During this role he investigated reports of unlawful eviction and harassment, regularly interviewed landlords under Police conditions and diligently advised landlords thereafter as to best practise.
  • In 2009 Michael became a director of a Leeds-based legal services company, which company provided legal services for landlords, tenants and letting agencies in the private residential property sector.
  • In 2010 Michael joined Shulmans Solicitors in Leeds where he became a fully qualified solicitor specialising in commercial and residential property litigation.
  • In 2013 Michael became a solicitor advocate appearing in courts across both the Northern and North Eastern Circuits and in 2014 obtained Higher Rights of Audience to appear before any higher court in the country. During his time as a solicitor advocate, Michael attended over 800 hearings, the majority of these cases being property related.
  • In 2015 Michael became a fully qualified barrister and moved to London where he undertook training at Arden Chambers specialising in residential property disputes in both the public and private sector.
  • In 2016 he moved to St. Albans Chambers where he specialised predominantly in all things property related.
  • In September 2018 Michael joined 42 Bedford Row where he specialises in both residential and commercial property litigation.
